F is for Fin Fang Foom

So, this guy immediately popped into my head for F.  I mean, his name has three of them.  I’ll admit, I didn’t know a whole lot about this guy before today, and had only seen him a couple times, most notable in NEXTWAVE: Agents of Hate, which is a superb series that everyone should check out.

So it turns out, that while looking like a giant dragon, Fin Fang Foom (that name kind of seems a little racist now that I think about it) is in fact an alien shapeshifter who is waiting for his brethren to come and take over the planet.

In reading about Foom, I see that most of what he actually does is sleep.  He is just resting, due to some herb, (I love how many strange herbs exist in the MU) and occasionally gets woken up by super-people.  The Collector collected him along with others, but Foom eventually got out, due to the Mole Man and the Fantastic Four, where he headed to Monster Island.  I love Monster Island as an idea and am ashamed to say that I don’t think I have any comic that actually involves this wondrous place.  Anyway, Foom is more intelligent than the others, so he just ups and leaves, to return to his slumber.

But not for long.  Doctor Vault (whoever that is), a demon, and the Mandarin all woke him up at different times and had some battles I’m assuming.  He also was destroyed, but lived on in a statue (as beings are wont to do) and then came back and was reformed, shrunk down to human size, and became a chef at a Chinese restaurant because Reed Richards.

Finally, in NEXTWAVE, he appears in North Dakota but is killed by Machine Man after putting some member down his pants.  However, this may have been a duplicate.  It doesn’t really matter.

In conclusion, I don’t really know a lot about this guy, but I still like him a lot.  A giant green dragon is always cool, no matter when or where he shows up.  I will be on the lookout for any of his appearances and may someday add to this abbreviated entry.  Tomorrow, G is for… who knows?
